Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
