Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative comments from others kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always strives to get better.
Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
