Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover everything he could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse feedback from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always strives to get better.
Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
