Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
