Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
He started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
