Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental feedback from others kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
