• NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor in the world by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
