Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
