Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
