Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the globe by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
He started competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
