Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative feedback from others destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing love for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is very humble about his success. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
