Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always strives to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
