Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
