Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always strives to improve.
Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
