Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse feedback from others destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
