Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse comments from other people kill his goal of being one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil began playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying love for poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to get better.
Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
