Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse comments from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
