Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
